Cranmore’s marketing director may have been destined for a career in skiing, but her zest for the mountains keeps her busy all year long.
With skiing in her genes and a childhood in North Conway – voted the #1 ski town in the U.S. by USA Today – it’s no wonder Becca Deschenes went after a slope side career. After earning both her undergrad and master’s degrees from Plymouth State, she spared no time in finding a job at her hometown resort, Cranmore, starting out as a snowboard instructor, and working her way up to the marketing director she is today. Even when she’s off the clock, this 32-year-old can still be found on the slopes participating in weekend race leagues or trekking around with her pup, Odie.
What NH Has That Other States Don’t
I love that I can be in the mountains in the morning, and at the coast in the afternoon. There is such a variety of things to do, and the natural beauty of the area is just unreal from the foliage at Franconia Notch to the view from Mount Washington’s summit on a clear summer afternoon. I feel incredibly lucky that this is all right in my backyard.
Favorite NH Pastimes
Skiing and snowboarding (obviously!), mountain biking, floating down the Saco, going camping, I even dabble with rock climbing. One of my all-time favorites is going for a summer drive down the Kancamagus highway with my mom at dusk to look for moose.
Favorite NH Place to Pause
If I need to unplug, I head into the woods with my dog or find a quiet place along the river. I love that I can go somewhere and be in complete silence, with nothing but the sounds of nature. Sometimes I’ll head to the top of Cathedral Ledge on a clear night to watch meteor showers.
