Just when you think the foliage show can’t get any brighter and BOOM, it does! I have been hearing reports of how awesome the foliage has been around New Hampshire’s Lakes Region. So, I had to go check it out for myself. There is still an abundance of color to be seen in this region with beautiful corals, peaches, yellows and reds dotting the trees. And there is just something magical about seeing these autumn hues reflecting in the crystal clear waters below.
This video blog highlights the scenery and some great stops to make as you work your way around the Big Lake! I hope you enjoy the sights as much as I did.
There were so many fantastic places on this adventure for photos, here are a few of my favorites along the route.
So, what is the scoop on the route? Here goes! Head north from Concord on Route 106, past the New Hampshire Motor Speedway and through Belmont. Take Route 11 toward Gilford, then 11 A, this will take you to Tannery Hill Bridge (#68 of New Hampshire’s Covered Bridges). Then follow 11-B to Route 11 which will take you to Ellacoya State Park. Leaving the park, head toward Alton and Alton Bay – watch for the views of the Lake along this stretch of road. Once in Alton you’ll notice awesome views and colors as you look across the bay. 28A North out of Alton takes you to Route 28 and into Wolfeboro. Watch for Route 109 in town. (A quick detour on 109/28 will take you to the Wolfeboro Recreational Rail Trail). Stop off at the town docks once you’re back in town and enjoy sitting by the water for a spell, it’s relaxing and beautiful! Back on the road take 109 heading north out of town, off that take Union Wharf Road to 109A, then Sodom Road which will take you to Route 171 and Castle in the Clouds. From there follow 171 to 109 and 25 through Moultonborough, Center Harbor and into Meredith. Another great place to stop and just enjoy the water and the views. Route 106 south will take you to Laconia. From there take Route 3/11 to Tilton and Interstate 93.
PS… Can’t let you go without this update… Wow! A lot of missing leaves!
