Three This Month: Midways, Crafts, and Bonfires

Three can’t-miss October events from across the state.

10/7 – 9
Sandwich Fair [Sandwich]

This agricultural fair has been an annual mainstay of the Lakes Region since 1886. Since its first year as a cattle trade event, the fair has grown to include all of the trappings of an agricultural fair like ox-pulls, horse shows, and pig handling as well as carnival rides, live music, a craft fair, and all the deep-fried fair concessions you could want dotting across 185 acres of fairground fun.

River Fire [Berlin]

The annual River Fire festival draws over 5,000 guests each year to spend a day among the hay rides, antique tractors, hot air balloon rides, and live music – for starters. The main event of the night showcases the day’s hundreds of carved pumpkins lit up across the Androscoggin River Bridge along with 10 floating bonfires. Best of all, all proceeds go to Operation Warm, which gives brand new winter coats to local families in need.

Great New England Craft & Artisan Show [Milford]

This annual event kicks off the holiday shopping season for the nearly 20,000 guests that peruse hundreds of different vendors’ handcrafted items right in the Hampshire Dome. These craftsmen are invited from all around New England to showcase the best of the best, but the majority are from right here in New Hampshire, from the Great North Woods to the Seacoast. Crafts include everything from custom wood tables to oil paintings, homemade jams and goat’s milk soaps.
